The Elinor Bag

Experiencing illness and hospitalisation as a child can be a very scary, isolating and stressful experience for the entire family. In mid 2021 Elinor, a ten year old young girl from Sydney was in hospital for three weeks. Unsure of her diagnosis and severity of her illness she was feeling anxious and frightened as to what lay ahead.

‘To help with some of the anxious feelings I felt during my hospital stay, the hospital gave me toys and craft kits. This made me feel like I was at home having fun’.

Lucky for Elinor, she had a complete recovery and a few weeks after her discharge, she decided she wanted to bring joy and hope to other children in hospital. She decided to create a special bag of activities, ‘The Elinor Bag’  in order to brighten up their day. As of mid 2022 350+ bags have already been distributed.

A project of the Jewish Family Centre, generously supported by Elinor and her family.
